Korean Centeral Intelligence Agency
Evaporation contains of photographs, archive materials with the video evidence matters from KCIA (Korean Central Intelligence Agency) which was used by the Korean military government in the 1960’s. During the research on KCIA, I discovered and visited the former building where KCIA used it for interrogation and torture. Tracing the past which are recorded through photographs and video can reveal or memorialize the trauma and history for the young generation who did not experience life with a dominant military regime. The scenes in the video are extracted from four movies: Vanished(1994) by Sangok Sin, Mugoonghwa-Korean National Flower(1995) by Jinwoo Jung and KT(2001) by Junji Sakamoto, The president’s barber(2004) by Chansang Im In this video, I try to depicts KCIA as the perpetrator, juxtaposing shots in color acts of conspiracy with black and white scene of torture directed by my scenario. Through this montage a narrative unfolds about a victim’s memories while being tortured and in the end of dictator’s demise.
